L’acqua e la luce. La fotografia a Venezia all’alba dell’Unità d’Italia

(Water and light. Photography in Venice at the beginning of the Unification of Italy)
Photography exhibition marking the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy

Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti
Palazzo Loredan, Venice
3 March – 15 May 2011

The exhibition studies the period that ended with the annexation of Venice and the Veneto to Italy, showing the city through the eyes of photography and how it bore testimony to the events that started with the exalting experience of the Republic under Manin, the crowning of the patriotic dreams that had been cherished for so long and the entrance of Venice into a unified Italy.

The exhibition includes original works by different authors and in different formats from various collections, both public and private, from Venice and the Veneto, glasses from photographic projections and stereograms with views of Venice; it also includes several nineteenth-century equipment for viewing and a rare camera obscura for daguerreotype photography with Ponti optics.
There is also a film section with some of the earliest shots ever taken of the city, showing a new way of observing Venice and everyday life there.

We designed the display cases, the kind of light and its colour and also coordinated the installation.
